Aims and Objectives

-The aims are to provide a social space & cafe with material and resources to be open for use by all; such as instruments, computers and a library. In doing so, we aim to advance access and encourage artistic creativity of all forms. We also aim to encourage community involvement by engaging with different issues and improving quality of life by:

a) Enabling greater access to all forms of the performing arts by providing an open arts venue and facilities in which all events will be open and a minimal charge/donation will be asked.

b) Providing opportunities to learn and develop skills by providing art and cultural workshop programmes.

c) Increasing access to art by providing a community gallery and exhibitions of local and international artists.

d) Facilitating the development of artists’ work and skills by providing facilities to practise, rehearse and advance their work.

e) Building co-operation and cultural understanding by working with other institutions and individuals, both locally and in the wider international communities.

f) Working with existing groups to promote sustainable living, environmentally and ecologically; through education & information and by creative examples in and around the space.

g) Encouraging discussion around current issues, especially the environment, humanitarian issues, health issues and issues arising from poverty.

h) Providing a social space that encourages free-thinking, radical critiques and creativity in pursuance and development of social solutions to the challenges of modern day society.

i) Supporting local and grassroots campaigns; and to act as a tool for social change by promoting a range of activities, such as film & music nights, work shops, exhibitions, meetings, markets, actions and by providing healthy affordable food.

Use of the Space

-The Space is to be used by those in pursuance of the aims and goals outlined in section 2, ensuring the following;

a) No established political group may use the space for political means or political campaigning, although they may use it when working with other organizations in pursuance of the goals outlined in section 2.

b) The campaigns run in The Chapel Community Centre are agreed on by the committee and must be accessible to any member of society and not be in any way Sexist, Racist, Fascist, attack a specific religion or promote violence.

c) The directors retain the right to bring to a halt any Campaign that becomes detrimental to the running of the centre.

d) Groups who use the space free of charge are asked to donate some time towards the running of the space. Priority, when possible, will be given to those groups who are contributing time over those who are not.

Potential Uses;

-Gallery Space; The space can be used for artists to display their work both inside and outside.

-Workshops; a large main hall with a substantial capacity tables, chairs, tools and arctic pelicans, the space can be used for a variety of workshops,

-Classes: If anyone is interested in using the space to run classes in any thing such as Yoga, Thai Chi etc

-Music: rehersal space for small or large bands, interactive music groups.

-Theatre; rehersal space and venue use

-Voluntearing oppurtunities; We will be pairing up with other organisation's in order to provide voluntearing oppurtunities.
