Chums of The Chapel Featurette: Dream Factory

......................................................................................................

Zara Khalique's brand of custom designed, one-off clothing, accessories and artwork has taken The Chapel by storm....

The young fashionista has been in the game for 2 year, revamping your hand me downs, recycling your rags into more vibrant, fresher pieces of material mastery. Whatever you want, whatever you need, she'll customised those airforce1's sending them into limited edition status.

But you can't man a movement on ur lonesomes, backed up by the DT family there's a whole gaggle of artists, musicans, models, DJs and MCs ready reppin' those skills to a wider audience. But don't take our word for it, take hers:

"I've like to do a bit of everything, check out the picture galleries for examples of my techniques and work, but if you want something you haven't seen, just ask. My stuff has been stocked in a few shops and that, but i'm gonna sell it by myself for the time being, whether online or at stalls.

Dream factory is definately not about the money, but the love ;) i know what it's like not to have loads of $$$ to shell out for lovely things, so i keep prices as low as i can.

I keep things personal; if you email me, you'll only get a reply from me, i run every aspect of the brand.

Dream factory fully supports and has so much love for anyone whos doing anything positive, passionate, anything that helps you grow. It's all about skillz & thrillz, right? and helping each other to get to where we want to be."

Chums of The Chapel Featurette: Church of Craft

......................................................................................................

For those of you who like to get your creative juices flowing to the sound of knitting needles clicking, scissors snipping away at materials that need stitching, paper mache to tissue paper displays, its all happening here when Church of Craft Manchester meets The Chapel!

Our aims are to "create an environment where any and all acts of making have value to our humanness... To find moments of creation in our everyday activities and simple satisfaction". "The power of creating gives us the confidence to live our lives with all the love we can". What a mantra hey?!! Church of Craft Manchester and The Chapel don't affliate ourselves with any religions, we promote people of all faiths and of no faith to come along and get stuck in no matter what the dogma, so check it out!

Watch this trailer for Faythe Levine’s new documentary "Handmade Nation" for an idea of what we do.

Chums of The Chapel Featurette: STAR

......................................................................................................

What is STAR???

STudent Action for Refugees is a unique organisation giving university students the opportunity to:

-educate awareness of refugee issues in innovative ways
-support refugees in their local communities through volunteering
-campaign with & for the rights of refugees

Why refugees and why students???

Refugees and asylum seekers are a vulnerable group of people who often have a long & difficult struggle to secure their safety in another country. As people fleeing persecution, torture & prejudice they need & deserve our support.

As a new generation it is vital that students have a positive attitude towards refugees, asylum seekers & displaced people. Students have time, energy & enthusiasm to give to supporting refugees & asylum seekers.

STAR aims to cater for all its members & supporters. Whether you want to participate in volunteering projects, campaigns, organise publicity stunts, work with refugees in your local area or simply turn up to a meeting to hear a speaker or receive our quarterly newsletter, it’s here, it’s fun and it’s yours for the taking.

Contact Rick on 07891095245 if you’d like to find out more about Manchester based student groups & how you can help supporting this work.

A Fine (Time)Line Between Love & Great(Ness)

......................................................................................................

Platt Chapel, 186 Wilmslow Road, Manchester
......................................................................................................

First fasinating fact!:

869/870 AD - Nico Ditch a 6 mile iron age road is built alongside the boundaries of Murcia & Northumbria (passing the chapel's eventual resting place)...

Dug in a single night by the Citizens of Manchester, its purpose is to protect all against the imminent Viking invasion...

1699 - The original plot of land is bought for only £99!!!!!!

1720 - Non-conformist dissedents build the chapel in reaction to the established Church of England and the doctrine of the Trinity

1885 - Manchester Amateur Photographic Society is founded and begin to use the space, chronicling the changing face of Manchester over the past 250 years

1973 - Unitarian Church closes

1998 - Russell Leite Theatre School hire the premises

2004 - Building is left derelict for 5 years :(

Here it starts to get interesting!:

2008 - Real Estate company buy building in auction and bidding war begins for the control of leasehold...

NYE 08/09 - 9 students from Manchester's dream to return this site of heritage back to its former glories begins... Oh & one HUGE kick ass party goes down, yeeeha!!!!!
